Indian Passport Photo Requirements: A Quick Guide
Learn the main Indian passport photo checks for size, background, framing, and image quality before you upload or print.
If you are preparing an Indian passport, visa, e-Visa, or ID photo, the photo is one of the easiest parts to get wrong. Start with the essentials: the correct preset for your service, a plain white or light background, a clear face, and no heavy editing.
Some Indian passport and consular photo instructions use a colour photo sized 2 inch x 2 inch, or 51mm x 51mm. Other Passport Seva and mission flows may request a 35 x 45 mm photo or a 630 x 810 px upload. Always check the current instruction for your application before you submit.
Photo checks at a glance
- Passport preset: 35 x 45 mm / 630 x 810 px where requested.
- Square preset: 2 inch x 2 inch / 51mm x 51mm where requested.
- Visa and e-Visa: square JPEG-style output with a light or white background.
- Image quality: sharp, recent, evenly lit, and natural.
